Classic Apple Chutney

Making your own delicious homemade apple chutney could not be easier. Feel free to add different spices, more or less, to your own taste.

Makes: Approx. 1 litre / 1¾ pints

Ingredients

  • 1½kg of cooking apples, peeled and diced
  • 750g of light muscovado sugar
  • 500g raisins
  • 2 medium onions finely chopped
  • 2 tsp (teaspoons) of mustard seeds
  • 2 tsp of ground ginger
  • 2 tsp of chilli powder
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 700ml of cider vinegar

 Method

1) Combine all the ingredients in a maslin pan and bring to a boil on a medium heat.

2) Simmer uncovered whilst stirring frequently for 30 to 40 minutes until the mixture becomes thick and pulpy.

3) Remove from the heat and leave to cool.

4) Transfer to sterilised*, clean, dry jars and seal.

*Tip: The easiest way to sterilise your jars is to run them through the dishwasher!
